Independence Day at Camp Emerald ...
... "Good Times"
It was one of the hottest days so far this Summer ... but, the canopy was set up, the topography provided some shady areas for the dogs, and the
occasional breeze was delightful. "Ceely Manner" is a perfect location for such a dog-friendly event, with lots of space, nice scenery, and plenty of
indoor/outdoor runs when needed. The dogs looked beautiful running over the acres of grass - they were all smiles ... and "tongues", for most of the
day. The food was great ~ Cathy made a delicious dip for crackers and put it on the table outside. While none of the dogs disturbed the table, there
were a few who became very quick on the sneak ~ literally snatching a cracker out of an otherwise oblivious hand. Chef Ceely had marinated &
barbecued baby back ribs & roasted corn on the cob; there was an assortment of yummy salads, and the baked beans were definitely a strong
competitor to my own secret recipe! Everyone left the table so "full" didn't even get to the pie that Gayle brought, or the ice cream extravaganza that
Cathy had planned. Steve & I supported the produce industry ~ I made my special "Emerald Martinis", and Steve made delicious Strawberry
Daiquiris! While all Emerald Doberman events call for Emerald Martini's ... Steve's Strawberry Daiquiris are FAR too good to pass up, (he's a pro).
The dogs feasted on a special treat for dinner ... fresh, meaty, GIGANTIC Emu bones. It even took Tyler a good hour to eat his!! The humans were, (as
usual), out-numbered: Cathy, Steve, Gayle, Todd & myself (5), spent the day with Tyra, Emma, Broox, Asia, Tyler, Logan, Max and Mira (8). Mike &
Renee stopped by for a few minutes, so we were almost "even" for a short while. The 'annoyance' of non-visual-fireworks could be heard for most of
the day ...  some of the dogs didn't mind too much, some didn't care at all, and others felt their day had been ruined by the 'ridiculousness of
mini-bombs.' Logan absolutely hated them, but used that to her advantage as she spent her day gathering extra pity-petting, attention, and quiet time
of her own. Emma, too, had absolutely no use for the crash-bang-booms. The humans agreed with the two of them for the most part. Emma was the
house princess most of the day, but came out to receive some attention ~ Todd as more than happy to dote over 'Steroid-barbie', (his nickname for
her for years now). Tyler was completely oblivious to most of the noise, unless there were "lights-in-the-sky" ... THAT would cause him to stop playing
just long enough to enjoy the show ... then he went right back to playing. He discovered the fun of a dog door, and was also obsessed with trying to get
grama-Tyra to play with him, (see his 'happy success' below). Cooling of the dogs in the heat of the day was accomplished by Gail ... when she pulled
out the hose. At that time, most of the dogs ran for cover, (ah yes, Doberman vs. Water), but ,Tyra and Mira were all about the aqua-fun, (see video
below). Max was the "big man on campus" and was the "King of Tongue". Broox graced the camera lens with humor and funny faces ~ what a
character she is, (see pix below). Asia was the baby of the group but had quite a bit of playtime with Tyler and got along well with Logan, too. I found
out just how much Logan & Asia resemble each other today ... they are, after all, paternal half-sisters. And then there is Mira - who  just never stops -
she has more energy than the Eveready Bunny - she is amazing.

On this National Holiday, I thank God for our beautiful country, for the liberties we have ...
... and those who serve to protect our rights to freedoms we can only have here in America.

Thank you, Cathy & Camp Emerald ... this was a good day! ~ Kathy Babbitt, (Todd, Logan & Tyler, too)
