Saturday, August 16th, brought with it another day of sunshine and heat-heat-heat, (in every sense of the word). Nevertheless, Echo thrilled us yet again by attending the DPCA Working Aptitude Evaluation, under evaluator, Eve Auch. Echo was the oldest Doberman in attendance and had to be the last in line to go through the evaluation. Since I did the paperwork for the evaluation, she had to be there ~ outside with me ~ ALL day, again. She proved none of that mattered, when she passed "with authority", as Todd would say ... making her a Working Aptitude Certified Doberman. Eve did a great job as a DPCA WAE evaluator - she was tough but fair, cordial with both the dogs and the handlers, and offered up much about the true spirit of Doberman event participation. To rap up the show events of the weekend, each of the Katoba Dobes placed in their classes, and each won a piece of the "sweepstakes pie". Ledger was the standout for us in the Sweepstakes competition, though, and went home with the giant lavender rosette. Echo was the overall "big winner" of the weekend, and awaits the receipt of her giant rosettes ... sadly, the PSDP club did not bring them to the show. Wow- they are "batting a thousand" aren't they!?! Echo now believes "her job is done" now ... and what more could I ask of her - she was a great show girl and a fabulous brood bitch ... ...even as a veteran, her qualities are honored ... "thank you, again, Breeder-Judge Ms. Pamela DeHetre. Echo's former handler had a conflict and couldn't show her that day, and now I am so glad it worked out that way ... ... I got to be the one to handle Echo to such a great set of honors ~ and as her handler for the event, I "Bonused" myself ... "HEAVILY". Echo is very deserving of this amazing weekend ... and I am grateful for her eternal willingness.

Again, my heart is full ! Special thanks to the families who came down for the show to watch and participate !!! The "Emerald Dozen" has brought many a smile - they are now almost 18 months of age. I look forward to many more announcements on this litter - they are so wonderful.

The first reunion of the "Emerald" litter was full of fun and SUN! On Friday, August 15th, we were at the Puget Sound Doberman Pinscher Club Specialty, where several of the pups were entered: Can Int'l CH Katoba's Emerald Horizon CGC "Tyler" (AKC Major ptd) Int'l CH Katoba's Emerald Knight CGC "Ledger" (CKC ptd) Int'l CH Katoba's Emerald Jam CGC "Vedder" (CKC ptd) Int'l CH Katoba's Emerald Classic "Logan" (CKC ptd) Int'l CH Katoba's Emerald Rain "Misty" & (AKC Major ptd) Can Int'l CH Sudahr's Raindance CGC WAC "Echo" Also in attendance: Int'l CH Katoba's Emerald Warrior CGC "Ronin" BAISS Katoba's Emerald Downs CGC "Cahill" Katoba Dobermans got off to a great start at the Specialty show, where Ledger went Best of Opposite Sex to Best in Sweepstakes, under Judge Shelli Sinclair. CONGRATULATIONS to Ledger and to his family, The Gohman's.
Then, under Breeder-Judge, Ms. Pamela DeHetre, Echo was awarded First in the Veteran Bitch Class and then BEST IN SPECIALTY SHOW VETERAN. If that weren't enough excitement, Echo was also awarded BEST IN SPECIALTY SHOW BROOD BITCH, presenting with get: Ledger & Logan. It was pushing 95+ degrees that day. All the dogs were extremely hot - especially the Veterans ... but they all held it together for the show. Logan & Misty decided that was the right time to be in season (ugh); and unfortunately for all, this club no longer holds its Specialty in the covered Arena - but, instead, in the open ring without much cover. Such is the life of showing dogs ... and poor club decisions. An aside regarding poor club decisions: rumor has it - PSDPC's next August Specialty show will not host a lunch, and may eliminate rosettes. Our response to that is, "what makes it a Special-ty Show then?" Anyway, this year brought a VERY special day for Katoba Dobermans ... especially the moments of having Echo back in the ring ~ ~ Todd even enjoyed that part of the show. Echo had not forgotten anything ... she showed like a pro & gave me a REAL "run" for my money on the go-around ~ she still has only one speed - "GO". It was great to have so many of the litter there - seven of the twelve. Unfortunately, it was SOOOOOO hot ~ and given the two girls were in season ~ it was not possible to get a group photo. There will undoubtedly be more opportunities in the future.
