| Today, we were up early with the "little dogs" (I can't call them puppies anymore - they are simply growing before my eyes). They 'wolfed' down their breakfast ... in the FROST of the fall morning ... and then they wanted MORE. I went through 12 # of grind, 3 pounds of boiled chicken breast, 1 can salt free spinach, 1 can sweet potatoes, 1 cup cottage cheese, their b-naturals supplements, (green blend daily blend, immune & probiotics blends), and a little warm water so as not to watch it freeze before it hit the ground. HOLY COW (again) that is a lot of food. I believe I actually heard Louis "burp". hahahaha. Nevertheless, they did their other morning business while the big kids ate. When they came back in, they had to settle for a long nap, as I had to go to a lecture is Seattle. By the time I got home, they were REALLY ready to go outside ... and that they did. After about an hour of play, it was AGAIN time to feed them. They each ate a chicken back ... a few of the "less chubby" pups got TWO. They laid in the sun for a short time and then the "FUN Bell" rang. They have been playing for three hours ~ first just the little dogs .... then, the little dogs and their mom, Misty ~ whom they adore and still try to sneak a "snack" from. Then, oh my goodness ~ the party REALLY started. Uncle Tyler got to run free with the "Little Dogs". Only until the neighbor dogs came out to "fence-terrorize". Tyler is quite to bolt to the fence ... and I would prefer NOT to see the "nine L.D.'s" become one big trail-pizza. The L.D.'s, (Little Dogs), LOVE Tyler, and he is so patient with the nine nippers who insist on jumping at and on him. Several of them are imprinting heavily on him and I am very happy about this. When Tyler had enough, I let Echo come out. Oh my gosh, she is the most amusing to watch. She is the PERFECT "grama" - she plays hard with them and is so good they ALL end up getting cookies ... and then she runs in the house or sends them on their way. SMART GIRL. After Echo had her fun, she went in for a grama-nap. I decided it was time to do some of the daily training work with them. We did a few group sits - cookies rewarded of course. We also did a follow the leader around the yard fully once and EVERYONE stayed with the group. Each time I said "cookie", "puppy", or a dogs name ... EVERY pup who looked up got a 'cookie' ... I went through 12 string cheese. ha! That was the gist of today's limited, but VERY successful, "training". The pups stayed outside until they were exhausted and laying under at my feet. I opened the patio door and they are jumped into their sleeping pen, curled up in groups and fell asleep. That was at about 5pm. I fed the big kids and made myself a 'sandwich' between 2 triscuits, (hey, when the pups are going through that much food ... an egg salad 'sandwich' for human consumption IS a "Five Star Meal" - hehehehehe!) I just heard from Mischief's mom-to-be, who had just returned from a very successful agility class with Uncle Oz. While talking on the phone, the pups woke up and I let them out - ALL made it out in time to potty, and "potty-potty" (ha), before ANYONE had to go in the shavings in the pen. YAY LITTLE DOGS !!!! It is EASY to tinkle-train ONE dog ... but, nine ... NOT SO MUCH! That said, it is - again - that time ... yes, time to pull out their THIRD meal of the day, which is a repeat of the morning 'grind meal', but smaller by about 2 pounds total. Later tonight, they will come out for another play time - shorter as it will be quite cold by then, but they need to play BEFORE they have their fourth and final meal of the day - one more boney meal, (another single chicken back each). Then an after dinner cuddle and nap. Finally, about 11pm-ish, (I still come out with them, since Braun's raccoon incident), we will all come back out for the little dogs last "big", (freezing), potty-outing of the day before bedtime. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, BED time!! And, now, as I sit outside in the chill of this lovely fall evening writing this - so I can watch them play in the cool, quickly darkening sky - I will say that ANY errors in spelling in this journal entry are to be blamed on Mischief ... and Mischief alone ... who is insisting on being my assistant this evening. As a matter of fact she's been an "attention hog" all day :) |
| I took many photos today - it was a beautiful day - some of which are below. |
